The highline

When I visited the Highline, it was early winter, and not half so lovely as this.

All these people I know are visiting New York this summer. I’ve been having dreams about being there. When I visited, it was the coldest I have ever been in my whole life and the only time I have ever seen snow. Obviously I was totally smitten with it, because of course.

I had wanted to go since reading the BSC Super Special ‘New York, New York!’ when I was a kid, and grew up into the sort of person to be convinced it was My Kind of Place. Major regret of my visit: didn’t make it to the Cloisters like Claudia and Mallory. It’s where Claud learned the discipline to make her sketches truly great! Poor Mallory though, eventually learned that she was pretty terrible at drawing and probably the dullest club member and in possession of an alarmingly large number of irritating siblings.

So now I’ve been having all these dreams and seeing all these summery pictures and thinking about how probably, probably all these streetwise kids are just playing under burst fire hydrants and I don’t know, racing toy boats in Central Park and whatnot and really, it seems a little like a great idea to plan another trip for this time, next year.

Anyway though I am supposed to go somewhere new next year but now I am making awesome deals with myself like “well, if you go to Europe for a month, then maybe you can reward yourself with a fortnight in NY!” I am a sensible grown-up lady.
